No I just make sure the compost is moist enough to keep the root ball intact. It's important to avoid too much water around the roots of your chillies.

Pot them on gradually, wait until they have outgrown the old pots. I wouldn't advise reporting too frequently as chillies hate having their roots disturbed. As a general rule of thumb wait until you see the roots poking throught the drainage holes in the old pot.

Cheers Tross,

used chili focus last season but maybe I was a bit too sparing. Will try feeding them more often if I have any problems this season.

Sean created a new topic Yellow leaves. in the forum.
Hi guys,

I have a recurring problem each year which is that some of my plants suffer from very pale looking foliage. Some leaves even appear yellow.

Can anyone help with the cause of this and ways to prevent it.

Cheers.

Sean replied to the topic Re: Hi from West wales in the forum.
Hi Clare,

welcome to the forum. Sounds like things are going really well over in West Wales. Not sure if you need a lot of tips if your plants are fruiting all year - you must be doing something very right!

I find the 2 chillies per pot approach unusual, a lot of the guys here say they are short on space so I'm sure they'll be intereted in this.

Good luck with the polytunnel I'm planning on growing plants straight in the ground outside this year but if it's a disaster I'll be investing in one next year myself.

Cheers,

Sean.

Cheers Stuie,

that's given me some confidence.

I've got a load of seedlings sown indoors so as soon as they get bigger I'm going to plant a few directly in the ground outside. I live in South London and the garden gets plenty of sun so fingers crossed!

One plant per pot at this stage I'm afraid!

This is because you don't want them to be competing with each other for root space, soil nutrients etc ...

If space is really so limited I would sugeest that it's time to make some tough choices. Decide how many plants you have room for and select the strogest looking seedlings. Then it's curtains for the rest of them I'm afraid!

Hello mate,

Sounds like things are coming along nicely so far. I would definitely say that its time to get your seedlings into new pots at this point. Firstly they will need more space to develop. Secondly it sounds as if they are starting to get a bit leggy as they reach up to the light. When transplanting them you can leave most of the stem below the soil level. Roots will actually develop off the stem that is underground and you will end up with more stable plants.

As far as feeding goes I never feed my seedlings unless their growth seems to stall. If this happens child focus or half strength tomato feed usually kick starts them. I would profit them out first and see how things go.

Hope this help,

Sean.
