For a kitchen window, you need compact plants and good light.
IMO, for the former you can't beat Prairie Fire. Bushy round plants, standing 12"-15" high and similar in diameter. Hundreds of fruits per plant, held above the quite dense foliage. One seed supplier describes the heat as "atomic". They're certainly hot and you won't need many when cooking. I grow them in a greenhouse, but will overwinter some in the kitchen for fresh chillies.
As well as good light (especially when they're getting going in the Spring), they need to be warm. But be aware that direct, hot, strong sunlight during the summer months (if we have such a thing), can frazzle the leaves. If it is really hot, put them outside.
Cheers.
