Fresh Chillies

Picked when you order, so always very fresh.

This is the Spanish delicacy often served in Tapas bars. These are picked immature and green, and usually fried in olive oil and sea salt. Tradition says that one in 30 is a hot one (Please note that we can not guarantee that each pack will contain a hot chilli, nor can we guarantee that there will not be hot chillies in the pack. We do pick what we hope will be mild chillies). Normally available Mid July to the end of November.

Recipe:  As a starter, half-a-dozen fruits per person. Heat a heavy frying pan with a little oil, throw the peppers in (with stalks on) and keep them moving to blister and soften on all sides. Sprinkle with sea salt, and serve immediately - just pick them up by the stalk and enjoy!

The number of fruits per 150g will vary with the season between about 10 and 25.

These are larger than normal cherry chillies and very thick fleshed, very much like a plum tomato. These are one of our favourites, hotter than normal cherries, great for stuffing with cheese and a wonderful flavour. Normally available late July to the end of November.

Mild, solid & fleshy up to 7 inches long. This is one of the most common commercially grown chiles in New Mexico and is aso known as Hatch Chile. It is often grilled by the roadside and sold in "trunk loads" in New Mexico, unfortunately we don't grow quite enough to do that here. Normally available late July to November.

Now that the growing season is coming to a close, why not pickle some chillies to keep in the store cupboard. This kit comes with a 560ml Kilner Jar, and 200g of Santa Fe Grande (one of the best chillies to pickle) and a recipe sheet.

Simply slice the chillies, squash lightly into the kilner jar, bring your vinegar/water/sugar mix to the boil, pour over the chilli slices, leave a few weeks and enjoy!

This variety originates from Peru. About 3 inches long, slightly wrinkled and yellow. They are hot, but with a distinctive citrus taste. Good in light dishes such as fish or chicken. Normally available from Late August / Early September until the end of November.
