Our chillies are grown in polytunnels which protects them from wind and rain. The tunnels provide perfect growing conditions and we do not use any artificial pesticides or herbicides. 

All the chillies we sell are picked on the day of dispatch so that they reach you with the maximum possible freshness.

Bag of 4 Hungarian Hot Wax Chillies

Size: FRESH4HHW

Price : £2.40

These are thick & fleshy fruits about 6 inches in length. They are ideal for chopping finely into salads, stuffing with cheese or grilling. Normally available Mid July to the end of November.

Recipe:  Just grill, BBQ or fry with a little oil. Turn to roast the pepper on all sides.  Serve hot or hold as a side veg. Watch out for the top (seed end) inch or so - that's were most of the heat is. Tastes similar to sweetcorn.  Great for BBQs.

Heat: MILD to MEDIUM

Flavour: Sweetcorn (when roasted)

 


Bag of 5 Fresh Santa Fe Grande

Thick & fleshy with a medium heat - about 3 inches long. Picked yellow. Ideal for cooking, salsa or stuffing with cheese. Normally available Mid July to the end of November.

Recipe 1: Finely chop 1 Santa Fe Grande chilli and add to a few chopped fresh tomatoes. Add coriander leaves, lemon juice and salt to taste.

Recipe 2: Slice in half length-wise, de-seed, fill with a strong cheese, and grill.

Heat: MEDIUM.

Flavour: Melon-like.

 

Santa Fe Grande Pickling Kit

Why not pickle some chillies to keep in the store cupboard. This kit comes with a 560ml Kilner Jar, and 200g of Santa Fe Grande (one of the best chillies to pickle) and a recipe sheet.

Simply slice the chillies, squash lightly into the kilner jar, bring your vinegar/water/sugar mix to the boil, pour over the chilli slices, leave a few weeks and enjoy!

1 x 200g of Santa Fe Grande chillies (freshly picked, shipped whole with stalks)

Bag of 5 fresh Green Jalapeno

This is probably the most well known of chillies. Very versatile with medium heat, fruits 3" long.  Ideal for nachos, stuffing for 'poppers', salsas and general cooking.  Normally available Mid July to the end of November

Recipe: Poppers - Slice fruits in half lengthwise, de-seed, fill halves with cream cheese, re-assemble chillies, dip is whisked egg, dip in breadcrumbs. Put in freezer for 2 hours, then deep fry and drain. Serve warm.

Heat: MEDIUM

 

Bag of 4 Fresh Cherry Bomb

These are larger than normal cherry chillies and very thick fleshed, very much like a plum tomato. These are one of our favourites, hotter than normal cherries, great for stuffing with cheese and a wonderful flavour. Normally available late July to the end of November.
 

Bag of 6 Serrano

These are a larger variety of the traditional Serrano called Senor - about  3-4", but with the same heat. Used in salsas as a hotter alternative to Jalapeno.

Recipe: Guacamole - 1 finely chopped serrano, 3 avocados (smashed), 1 small onion chopped, 1 large tomato chopped, chopped coriander leaves, olive oil.

Heat:  MEDIUM to HOT.

Mixed bag

If you would like to sample some of the chillies we have, or just need a mixed bag of heats and flavours, try this collection.

Chillies freeze very well, so if you have any left over, pop them in the freezer - they can be chopped very finely when frozen and don't lose any of their flavour.

Bag of 8 Ring of Fire

A Cayenne-type chilli.  This is normally available from late July and is the best source of early season heat. Chop them into curries or Thai dishes

PLEASE NOTE - These chillies are sold GREEN during the early part of the season, and then RED towards the end of the season.

Recipe: Very finely chop and add to your own curry spice mix or lift the heat of a pre-made curry paste.

Heat: HOT 

 

150g bag of fresh Pimientos de Padron

Size: FRESH150gPP

Picked when you order, so always very fresh.

This is the Spanish delicacy often served in Tapas bars. These are picked immature and green, and usually fried in olive oil and sea salt. Tradition says that one in 30 is a hot one (Please note that we can not guarantee that each pack will contain a hot chilli, nor can we guarantee that there will not be hot chillies in the pack. We do pick what we hope will be mild chillies). Normally available Mid July to the end of November.

Recipe:  As a starter, half-a-dozen fruits per person. Heat a heavy frying pan with a little oil, throw the peppers in (with stalks on) and keep them moving to blister and soften on all sides. Sprinkle with sea salt, and serve immediately - just pick them up by the stalk and enjoy!

The number of fruits per 150g will vary with the season between about 10 and 25.

Heat: MILD, mostly!

Flavour: Pea and Sweetcorn, lovely! (when roasted)

Pepperoncini Pickling Kit

Why not pickle some chillies to keep in the store cupboard. This kit comes with a 560ml Kilner Jar, and 150g of Sweet Pepperoncini (they do all fit.. how-to video very soon) and a recipe sheet.

Simply squash the whole sweet peppers into the kilner jar (bending to follow the shape of the jar), bring your vinegar/water/sugar mix to the boil, pour over the chilli slices, leave a few weeks and enjoy!

Bag of 5 Aji Red

This variety originates from Peru. About 4 inches long, yellow then red. They are medium to hot with a distinctive citrus taste. Good in light dishes such as fish or chicken. We sell these chillies 'yellow' in the early season and red later in the year. The citrus flavour is also very nice in a fresh salsa.

Recipe1:  Chop 1 Aji chilli very finely and sprinkle into a chicken stir-fry and cook-in for a few minutes.

Recipe2: Salsa - Chop 1 Aji chilli very finely and add to chopped tomatoes, chopped coriander leaves and a squeeze of lemon.

Heat: MEDIUM to HOT 

Flavour: Lemon

 

Bag of 2 Fresh New Mexico Joe-E Parker Chillies

Mild, solid & fleshy up to 7 inches long. This is one of the most common commercially grown chiles in New Mexico and is aso known as Hatch Chile. It is often grilled by the roadside and sold in "trunk loads" in New Mexico, unfortunately we don't grow quite enough to do that here. Normally available late July to November.

1 Fresh Ancho Poblano

A large broad pepper tapering to a point, up to 6 inches long with a mild heat. Revered for its quality as a stuffing pepper. Stuff it with meat, cheese, rice or vegetables then bake them. Very popular in the USA and Mexico. Traditionally cooked green.

Joe-E-Parker and Poblano chillies are very mild chillies that can be skinned and stuffed with a filling of your choice, covered in an egg and flour batter and then shallow fried. For the filling you could use cheese or a herby minced meat mixture to make a Mexican dish known as "Rellenos". Normally available late July to the end of November.

Bag of 4 Fresh Fresno

These chillies keep really well. They have a cherry flavour and a medium heat - ideal for a tomato salsa or stuffed with cheese and grilled.

This chilli was developed in 1952 by Clarence Brown and named after Fresno, California. The fruits are about 8cm long and 3cm wide. The fruits has a thick flesh and is picked fresh for each order.

This variety originates from Peru. About 3 inches long, slightly wrinkled and yellow. They are hot, but with a distinctive citrus taste. Good in light dishes such as fish or chicken. Normally available from Late August / Early September until the end of November.

Bag of 5 Fresh Bhut (Naga) Jolokia

Despite all the other challengers you hear about, the Bhut Jolokia is still the official world-record-holding hottest chilli - up to 1.1 million Scoville units! At that heat rating, they are 4 times hotter than the average Habanero or Scotch Bonnet.

As well as a fierce heat, they also have a very distinctive fruity taste. The heat does not explode straight away but builds slowly to a great intensity which lingers for longer than usual.

They are very late to ripen so they aren't normally available until well into September.
