South Devon Chilli Farm – Market & Event Operative Job Specification

 

The Market & Event Operative (MEO) will play a key role in the success of our sales department, providing exceptional customer service at in person events.

The MEO will work hard to promote brand awareness of SDCF and grow sales.

The role will require travel around the South West of the UK and sometimes further afield. This will require overnight stays at times. The role is seasonal and will require weekend working.

The MEO will report to the Operations Manager; new responsibilities may be added to the MEO role by the directors as the business evolves.

Sales

  • Maximise sales at in person markets and events throughout the year
  • By learning all about SDCF products, trying them yourself and being able to talk about them and answer questions confidently
  • Look for upselling opportunities
  • Look for new sales opportunities across new events, new stockists etc.
  • This may be a mixture of retail and/or trade events

 

Research

  • Research new events that might be suitable for attendance
  • Research travel and accommodation options & provide suggestions to Operations Manager
  • Complete application forms for new events and act as point of contact for events companies
  • Look for new ways to improve the stand and make it appeal to customers to maximise sales, keeping it on-brand.

 

Customer Service

  • Use card payment systems to take payment and issue refunds when needed
  • Provide exceptional customer service & promote the good name and brand awareness of SDCF

 

Merchandising

  • Set up and take down the stand for each event
  • Together with the Shop Manager monitor product listings to ensure details are current & correct and notify management of any errors
  • Set up and merchandise the stand before each event
  • Look for ways to improve merchandising of events stands

 

Stock Management

  • Be able to estimate stock requirements for events and work with the kitchen and Operations Manager to ensure you have the stock & samples you need in time
  • Reintegrate remaining stock back into the warehouse supply after events are completed working with the Fulfilment Manager
  • Coordinate restocking of larger events where necessary with the Operations Manager
  • Carry out restocking & move stock between van and warehouse

 

Other   

  • Partake in social media updates on events with live videos, stories, reels etc
  • Perform other duties during busy times across the business as required including support in the warehouse, shop & outdoors
  • Take good care of the market and event equipment & store it tidily between events
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment
  • Maintain a good working relationship with your teammates at the Farm
  • You will need to be able to carry heavy stock & erect a gazebo and stand for each event so physical strength is required

Hourly wage from £11.44

Commission of 7.5% on sales (after stand expenses deducted) uncapped

Travel expenses covered by the company

Please note that hours will vary considerably  & are commonly across weekends – expect to be busy at Christmas and in the summer, with less hours in the winter. If there is work available, SDCF will offer you hours at the Farm (Loddiswell) doing general labour such as gardening tasks, packing orders or seeds, or supporting the shop team. Ths additional work is not guaranteed however.

An events calendar will be planned out for the year in advance however there may be other events added to this during the year. The events calendar will include some non-selling events such as sampling/trade shows where commission would not be earned.

 

 

Production Chef – Job Spec

 Reporting to the Operations Manager (OM), the Chef is responsible for maintaining the continuation of the South Devon Chilli Farm product range, specifically focusing on the SDCF cooked products. 

 A key member of the HACCP team, the Chef will ensure food safety measures are adhered to and production & food traceability records are kept up-to-date.

 The Chef will also assist the management team in New Product Development (NPD), taking the product from concept to launch.

Production:

  • Lead the production for the SDCF cooked range such as sauces & preserves, maintaining working stock levels across all lines at all times
  • Ensure recipes are strictly followed to maintain product consistency
  • Perform final product quality check and provide a sample of each batch for in-house testing
  • Ensure accurate production records are maintained & stored digitally
  • Discuss & formulate the weekly production schedule with the OM
  • Work with the OM to ensure project deadlines are met ie. adhoc orders, xmas stock building
  • Notify the OM of any issues/discrepancies with fresh ingredients, following up with suppliers in the OM’s absence
  • Provide staff training when necessary
  • Oversee and monitor staff production when present
  • Constantly look for ways to improve production processes to maximise efficiency
  • Be on the lookout for pinch points in the production processes and work with the OM to solve these

 

Stock Management:

  • Monitor final product levels through weekly stock check, aiming for average month stock to be maintained
  • Liaise with the fulfilment team to ensure bespoke product lines are sustained & large order deadlines are met (ie. Wahaca lines)
  • Record raw materials & component stock through weekly critical stock checks and return to OM for advance ordering
  • Manage freezer capacity & ensure correct stock rotation ready for new crop storage
  • Liaise with the OM & Horticultural team throughout the harvest season to ensure fresh/dried targets are met
  • Work with the OM & Warehouse Manager to ensure storage space is maximised

 

HACCP/Food Safety:

  • Meticulously follow food safety procedures and ensure accurate records are maintained and stored digitally ie. glass breakage procedure
  • Accurately record ingredient/component batch numbers as part of food traceability requirements
  • Ensure safe storage of ingredients & food contact materials to prevent contamination
  • Perform internal audits of CCPs and other processes as scheduled by the OM
  • Assist in product recall tests as scheduled by the OM to ensure forwards & backwards food traceability
  • Ensure the production kitchen is kept clean and complies with health & safety standards at all times
  • Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained and safety checks are followed and alert the OM to any concerns
  • Provide staff training for the cooking process and accompanying health & safety procedures as required

 

NPD:

  • Together with the management team develop new & existing recipes to meet consumer demands and market trends
  • Assist the management team in taking a product from concept to launch, scaling up production as efficiently as possible whilst delivering products of consistent quality & taste

 

Other:

  • Co-ordinate production content ideas for social media channels with the management team
